With COVID-19 travel restrictions lifting and life seemingly returning to normal, there has never been a better time to start planning that all important holiday. With Cheltonian Cars offering our fantastic seaport and airport transfer services, we thought now would be a good time to make you aware of everything you need to know when it comes to travel this holiday season.

Safety

Firstly, it’s important to know where is safe to travel this season. You’ll be pleased to know that there are currently zero destinations on England’s red travel list, which means there will simply be no need for you to quarantine any longer upon returning to the country. What has remained in place is the procedure by which arrivals into the country are required to fill out the Passenger Locator Form during a forty-eight-hour period before departing to return home. This may be scrapped in the coming months, however.

If you are not vaccinated, you must take a lateral flow test upon arrival or before the second day of your stay, and again on the eighth day. Significant travel destinations like Canada and America are beginning to reopen their borders, alongside popular choices such as New Zealand and Australia. You can find specific travel advice for the country you’re looking to go abroad to here.

Many European countries are disposing of quarantine rules and reinforced testing for travellers who are properly vaccinated and can prove this. For example, Italy, Cyprus, and France have all dropped the previous testing requirements for Brits who are double jabbed, while holiday destinations such as Croatia, Iceland, Greece, Portugal and Malta all had a strong level of reciprocated travel during the 2021 season, and this is continuing to prove successful as we look towards the 2022 summer.

Travel in 2022

What can you expect from travel in 2022? A significant number of countries are continuing to consciously promote mask wearing, social distancing, and frequent hand washing. Vaccination passports, obligatory testing and quarantine rule requirements won’t be going anywhere anytime soon, particularly for the 2022 travel season. However, many destinations are beginning to substantially ease their COVID-19 testing requirements, alternatively removing them all together.

Countries such as Slovenia and Mexico have completely disposed of any previous restrictions for both unvaccinated and vaccinated travellers. This is why it’s important to continue checking travel requirements and restrictions for your destination of choice, especially as you get closer to the date of departure.

Vaccination certificate

If you are travelling within Europe, it’s important to note that all travellers who possess a valid EU Digital COVID Certificate will be exempt from quarantine and testing in any fashion. This digital certificate is only valid if you have been double jabbed for more than fourteen days and less than nine months ago. The certificate is also valid if you received a booster jab of an EU-approved vaccine, recovered from COVID-19 and less than one-hundred and eighty days have passed since the date of the positive result, or if you have received a negative PCR test result no more than seventy-two hours before your arrival.

Travellers without this digital certificate could be required to take a rapid antigen test no later than twenty-four hours after arrival at their destination. So it’s worth checking before you leave for your holiday what applies to you and what doesn’t. Remember, we’re here to help!
